Why Ravens?

Ravens don’t simply appear in mythology - they arrive with purpose, like they already know the ending and are waiting for the rest of us to catch up. Across cultures, these sharp‑minded birds have been messengers, tricksters, guardians, psychopomps, and cosmic commentators who refuse to let humans drift too far from the truth.
They’re the perfect emblem for anyone walking a spiritual path with one foot in the mystical and one foot in the “I’ve seen worse” side of life. Which is exactly why they sit so comfortably at the heart of Wild Raven Tarot.
Why do I associate with Ravens? It's because of myths like these:
Odin’s Ravens
In Norse mythology, Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory) flew across the world gathering information for Odin. They were the original spiritual intelligence network, delivering insights that cut straight to the bone. Anyone who has ever been read for filth by a tarot spread knows this energy well.
The Morrigan
In Celtic lore, the Morrígan often appeared as a raven on the battlefield. She didn’t just predict outcomes—she influenced them. Her presence reminds us that shadow work isn’t about doom; it’s about sovereignty.
Native American Raven Stories
Across many Native American traditions, Raven is the creator, the light‑bringer, the one who steals fire or sunlight so humans can see. Trickster and hero in equal measure, Raven embodies the contradictions that make transformation possible.
Greek Raven Lore
In Greek myth, ravens were once white until Apollo scorched them black for delivering news he didn’t want to hear. A reminder that messengers often carry truths we’d rather avoid—and that wisdom sometimes arrives with singed feathers.
Ravens show up where transformation is happening. Where truth is about to land. Where magic is thick enough to taste. If raven mythology teaches anything, it’s that wisdom often comes from the shadows. Behind the Moon is where Celina and I go looking for it. We explore lunar lore, intuition, witchcraft, astrology, and the beautifully strange corners of the spiritual world. It’s part conversation, part ritual, part “did we really just go there,” and entirely powered by the kind of insight that only happens when two moon‑touched witches let loose.
Ravens may be ancient, but they would absolutely appreciate the chaotic going on during 420 Tarot. Every Wednesday, Joey and I crack open the cards, the humor, and the herbal inspiration to deliver readings that are equal parts mystical and unfiltered. It’s tarot with smoke curling around the edges and truth delivered with a grin.
Ravens remind us that magic isn’t pristine. It’s feathered, clever, messy, and alive. They sit between worlds—just like readers, witches, healers, and anyone who has ever looked at a tarot spread and felt the universe whisper back.
Whether you join me Thursday nights for Behind the Moon or Wednesday evenings for 420 Tarot, you’re probably going to learn something, and definitely have a great time.
